Looking Back

The next few days, or weeks, are going to be spent moving all my old posts from the old blog to this new one. I’ve posted more than 700 posts on the blogspot blog in the past 3 years. That’s a lot of moving.

Not all 700 are making the cut though. I’ve been reading some of my old posts and have had many a thought run through my head like, “What was I thinking?” and, “did I really say that?” and, “wow, I never followed through with that one”.

Even though they aren’t all coming over to the new blog I still have to go through all of them, which will be a monumental organizing and cleaning out task. As if I don’t have enough of that to do already.

I’ll publishing them all at their original post dates so you won’t see them up top when you come by to visit. That’s kinda good because some of them are a little, well, you know.

I’ll just say that I’ve changed a lot over the last 3 years.

Joy in work

Since we moved to this new house a few weeks ago we have started hanging our laundry out on the line.  My husband built a pretty nice clothes line for me because I said I’d like to not use the dryer all that much to save on electricity.

I’ve never chosen to hang out clothes before.  As a matter of fact, I don’t think I have ever hung out clothes at all except maybe during the aftermath of hurricane Hugo.  Even then I don’t remember hanging out clothes so maybe I didn’t – though I do have a vague memory of using clothes pins.  Maybe we hung out clothes when I was a wee little thing.
I remember thinking a couple years ago that people who had access to a dryer were nuts to waste time hanging out their clothes.  But, now I am viewing it all differently.

I have found that I don’t really mind it, that I actually enjoy it in a strange way.  It isn’t as easy as tossing clothes in the dryer and the clothes come off the line stiff as a board but there is a certain joy in doing something that requires a little more work.  Who knew that a little work could be so satisfying?

However, if you have tips to combat the stiffness of line dried clothes please let me know.

What Homeschooled Kids Do For Fun

 Speed Oat Rolling.

They were racing and actually timing each other.

They were racing and actually timing each other.

Their efforts gained us all a ton of freshly rolled oats. Mmmm...

Their efforts gained us all a ton of freshly rolled oats. Mmmm...

We had a ton of fun yesterday learning bread baking secrets, using fresh ground wheat flour, and rolling our own oats.  I came home feeling like I’d learned a new skill.  Though I’ve been baking bread for years, the tips I learned yesterday have made it brand new again!

About Teenage Girls

My daughter is 14. She has a friend over right now and it is bringing back memories. They’re doing the typical listening to records thing and singing out loud – suddenly not caring if others are hearing them.
Okay, we don’t have records but we do have CD’s and an iPod.
I can hear them talking through the open door to my daughter’s room. The topic of conversation is, you guessed it, boys. Though, with these two girls it isn’t the kind of boy talk you’d expect to hear. They’re talking about what kind of men make good husbands, what they expect from a young man when they are of courting age (yes, I said courting – it is still practiced by a great many young people, I’m finding out), and what are important traits in good wives.
I overheard them talking about the sorts of friends they’ve chosen and how it’s important to keep good company in the car earlier.

I didn’t have friends like them when I was a kid. I didn’t even know kids like them existed.  Truth be told, I wouldn’t have appreciated them anyway – probably would have corrupted them instead.

I am so thankful that my daughter, although very much like me, isn’t the teenager I was.

Today…

We (a lot of women from my church community, plus some) are going over to a friends house for a bread making party. She (Donna) is one of those people who has a ton of interests and knows a little bit about everything and a lot about a bunch of things. She’s hosting us today and is providing all the bread making – plus, she’s going to show us how to roll our own oats! I didn’t know you could actually roll oats. Actually, I thought they just grew in little wild Quaker tubs.

I’ll be taking notes.

The plan

Next year, actually, in about 9 or 10 months, my family will be moving into a travel trailer for at least a year.  Well, that’s the plan anyway.
We’ve told quite a few people of our adventurous housing plans and we’ve gotten a lot of different responses.  Most of them have been surprisingly positive and we even heard a few stories from people that we told of others who’ve successfully taken on this same challenge.

What we haven’t heard a lot of is the question, ”why?”.  Maybe nobody cares.  Or maybe people are done asking us why we do what we do.  They’ve just given us up as crazy.  It’s no matter.  I gave us up as crazy a long time ago.
If ya want to know why we’re doing this, it is because we need to start over without a dependency on so much stuff.  We want to live on less, with less, so we can be self sufficient and give more to others.

I’ll journal our progress.

Yesterday…

Square Head Jesse - 7 months

Square Head Jesse - 7 months

My computer went down.  Well, not totally down but I couldn’t do much on the internet.  It began performing less than desirable right about the time I was told by a friend that my template wasn’t working right.  So, after a little digging around I decided to delete it and reload it.
It was somewhere between delete and reload that my computer went down hill fast.

Since I still had my computer, just not the internet, I played with Photoshop and made cute square-headed people.

I managed to finally get my template reloaded but it wasn’t long after that my computer had a complete meltdown.  The words, “No more computer forever” ran through my head (props to Sam H.).  If you don’t know Sam H., I’m sorry.  He’s awesome and we quote him around here a lot.

Anyway, my husband got my computer up and running but it took the rest of the day and into the night.  And by the time it was done I had created an entire family of square headed people.  My family.

But, we really don’t have square heads like that.

Plus, you’ll be happy knowing she’s having fun in a safe, faith based place.
Precious Girls club members get to create their own characters, decorate a room of their own, explore the town, and make virtual friends. There area also virtual rewards given for completing certain tasks.

You can visit Precious Girls Club and sign up for a free account for your daughter. Then, make sure to sign up for the parental account so you can monitor your child’s progress and participate in her fun by her by leaving her special messages on her account.

Although membership is free, you can join the Rainbow Club for $3.95 a month ($1 of that goes to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital) and your daughter will have access to much, much more! If you want a code for a free month’s trial to the Rainbow club simply let me know in your giveaway entry. I have quite a few of them. These codes are also on each Precious Girls club item you purchase (or win) and can also be used to earn virtual charms and rewards.

Checkout Precious Girl’s Club then come back here and enter our giveaway!

This week’s giveaway includes:

  • 1 Precious Girl’s club book called Operation Kindness.
  • 1 plush Precious Moment’s kitty from the Precious Paws Animal Shelter.

Each contains a special access code for your child to use on the Precious Girl’s Club website.

It is so easy to enter and there are 4 ways to win! You’re only required to enter using one method below to win, however, if you use all four methods you’ll have a better chance!

US residents are welcome to enter per the rules below. Pay special attention to the closing date! You can enter twice by following the directions here by 8/23/2009. If I ‘know’ you please don’t hesitate to enter! Winners are chosen at random via a number generator.

  1. Leave a comment briefly telling me about one of your life’s most precious moments.
  2. Leave a post on your blog or website spreading the news about this giveaway. Make sure to leave a link back here.
  3. Twitter about this giveaway. The tiny URL for this is http://tinyurl.com/ktr7km.
  4. Subscribe to Crazy Reinvented’s RSS feed here. This is our new feed so if you’re already subscribed to our old feed there’s no need to resubscribe as of right now.

To receive each of your 4 entries you have to leave a separate comment for each of the 4 entries.

1 winner will be chosen on or around 8/24/2009. We will announce it on the blog
here as well as TRY to email the winner. I say ‘try’ because I often get email notices returned to me as undeliverable, I get no reply, or the winner doesn’t give a method of contact. Please make sure you check back to see if you are the winner! I can’t hang onto your winnings forever. After a week or so I will choose a new winner or relist the giveaway.
WINNER: Please allow about 3 weeks for your gift to arrive once you forward your shipping information to me. If you don’t want to leave me a method of contact that’s fine, I understand, but please remember to check back to see if you are a winner. We are easy to
contact. Also, if you do leave a method of contact you need to check your spam folder. Many people have missed out on winnings because the winner’s email went to their spam folder to be spotted after an alternate winner was chosen.

Subscribe to our RSS Feed so you don’t miss any of our giveaways and winner announcements!!!
