looking back on my now-self

10 years ago, at 24, I was really immature.  Seriously.  And selfish.

When my now-self looks back on my then-self , I wonder how my then-self was okay with that.

And will my future-self think the same thing about my now-self?  When I’m 44 will I think, “Man, when I was 34 I was so stupid”?

The only way to keep that from happening is to stop growing.  Stop learning.  Stop becoming more like Christ.
But since I’m in training to be more than I am right now I am betting that my future-self will probably think my now-self is a real dummy.

That’s a hard reality.

But at the same time it gives me something to look forward to.

a word, or not a word

There are real words, then there are words that are not-so-real.

For example:
Pintle is actually a word (just take my word for it).
Wuppit, not so much.

Scrabble is the game of the evening.

You know that feeling you have when the random assembly of letters you have in front of you turns out to be a real word?

It’s just awesome.

that i-want itch

We’ve been getting rid of tons of stuff lately. Seriously, we have an entire motorcycle trailer stuffed with garage sale goods.  Getting rid of stuff feels so good and I’m really having fun with emptying closets and drawers.  It just feels…
…lighter.

So why am I starting to feel that itch?

I’m coming down with the i-wants. I want a grain mill.  I want the Beautiful Feet books.  I want a new video camera.

Is there a medicated powder for this?

I can give a really good reason for wanting needing each of these things.  I’m good at manipulating myself into believing what I want.
But I’m supposed to be over that.  I made a decision to no longer listening to my own reason, a decision I’m struggling not to reason myself out of.
I just have to keep reminding myself that my own reason is stupid, bossy, and misleading.

Which is why I have a trailer full of stuff to sell.

We got us a Macintosh

“Dad, we have a surprise for you! It’s outside and I’m not going to tell you what it is.  You have to come see!” Exclaimed an excited Gabe.

“Is it something that you caught?” Dad asked as he stood up and followed.

Gabe giggled as he led his father outside to the backyard.

When Ryan returned minutes later he said very calmly,  “The kids caught a snake.  It’s not a garter.”

macintosch

Turns out it’s a juvenile rat snake.  The kids put it in a bucket and are calling it Macintosh.  It was Apple but that changed because they don’t know if it’s a girl or boy.

Cute, dear children. Cute.

No, you can’t keep it.  No, we’re not letting it loose in the yard.  No, we’re not going to put it in an aquarium in the backyard.

No.  I do not think it’s a pretty little thing.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills again.

Blackened beans n rice

Ya know how when you’re cooking dinner and you forget about it and it starts to smell funny…

…and all of the sudden you remember?

It was rice & beans with sausage and It only burned on the bottom. So why did the entire pot of soup have to take on that blackened flavor?

It was edible so we ate it anyway. We’re not one to waste food.  Besides, 3 of the kids had seconds so it must not have been too bad.

Then again, it could have been the ketchup de-flavoring the food. They drown everything in ketchup.

Drown Proof Training

stanleyStanley’s in drown proof training right now.  Yeah, it’s a special forces thing.

I know.  It doesn’t seem like a smart move, diving into an aquarium with no air tank.  It’s okay though because he’s a Seal.  A Navy Seal. They’re allowed to do really stupid things.

Stanley!!!  Watch out for that whale!

See all of Stanley’s adventures here.

We have a lot of boys.  This should explain everything.

I Will Be Glad

Posted By Kait

Ick. Not feeling too great today; I have the stomach bug, but I’ve decided to not be overly upset about it and be glad that I’m not dead or something.

At first it was pretty hard; I had to miss co-op, cancel my photo session with a friend, and layed on the couch all day.  Sigh.
I knew that there was a reason God kept us home from co-op, but sometimes it’s a little hard to find out why. Well, mom and I had a little conversation about it.

Kait: Mom, I know there’s a reason God kept us home today, but I can’t imagine why.
Mom: Who knows? Maybe something really embarrassing would have happened to you at co-op today.
Kait: I think I’d rather be embarresed then feel like this.
Mom: What about if you leaned down at your skirt ripped in 2 down the back?
Kait: Yup. That would be embarresing.

Turns out that my friend and my photo session would have been canceled and we  would have ended up at her house sitting in her room because it rained all evening. So, that’s okay. Also, I heard from a friend that our Spanish class was canceled, and our other classes were pretty…bland. So, I guess that’s God’s reason. I’m glad that I was sick on a week where co-op wasn’t amazing. I did my best to look on the bright side of things.

God rocks, and so do His plans.

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

At least I have something to blog about.

You know how a bathroom can get this smell that is pretty close to unbearable?  Well, maybe you don’t, but I have 6 boys and their bathroom had the scent of stank this morning.  It was time to do a down and dirty cleaning.  I got to work, getting hair and yuck out of the corners, wiping dirt smudges off the walls and doors, cleaning in and around the toilet, and cleaning poop out of the trash can.

Yes.  There was a nice steamer in the kids bathroom trash can. Don’t ask me how it got in there.  I don’t even want to know.  My imagination is trying to run wild with this.  STOP IT PLEASE!

Life with 6 boys means there is always something to blog about.
