The BIG cloth diaper giveaway!

Last January we purchased a large stash of Rumpsters diapers. I love them but within days after receiving them Ben shocked us by using the potty. This left us with 5 Rumpsters that were never used! They have been washed and dried twice to get them ready for use but they never made it onto Ben’s bum!

These LARGE Rumpsters are Velcro with snaps to prevent wing droop. They are all-in-one diapers with flaps for thorough cleaning and drying. The inners are hemp with only a super soft fleece touching your baby’s skin.
Read more about Rumpsters by visiting their website here.
These diapers are pretty adjustable. I tried one of the used larges on Sam 2 months ago when he was 5 months and he could wear them but just barely. Now, at 7 months, he can wear them and they are just a little big. Ben fit into them just before he turned 2 and they fit him perfectly and wore well under his clothes.

We are offering them here in one fun giveaway! You can’t beat FREE, can you?

These Rumpsters are a total of $120 retail value but you may get them free by following the following directions.
This giveaway will last through February. On March 1, 2008 we will choose a winner using a random number generator.

Our Kitchen Project – day 1

And the madness has commenced! Our kitchen cabinets were delivered Wednesday afternoon.

Pictured here are our old cabinets in our 40 something year OLD kitchen that was in desperate need of an update before we sell in the spring. Here I am modeling our old cabinets where we started our project. The refrigerator was originally supposed to go where the range is but when the previous owners got their new fridge it didn’t fit so they traded its spot with the range which looked very odd.

This is our fridge before we put it back where it belonged. It sorta stuck out funny in the kitchen, not really fitting well in the space provided for the range. We planned to put it back where it goes and add tall pantry style cabinets around it for a built-in look that will keep me from storing stuff on top of it – ~:O)

My husband wasted no time stripping the wall of its cabintes and range. It was bare and ugly.

Blessed we are that the cabinets came right off without any hassle. By this point the project looks as if it is going to be a breeze. Even plumming in the refrigerator’s ice and water wasn’t a problem at all. Ryan made it all happen so fast I was amazed at what he accomplished in just half a day!

So, here is a portion of it done. I guess we forgot to take a picture of this wall after we finished for the day. We ended up with the fridge sandwiched between the new cabinets but the bridge across the top wasn’t in-stock so we will have to wait for it to arrive to really finish off the wall. This first 1/2 a day went off without a hitch (except for the extremely uneven and particularly UGLY soffet (sp?) that runs around the top of our kitchen). Ryan had to cut an inch into it to make one of the cabinets fit – funny, all the other cabinets of the same height fit just fine. Finish work during painting will hide all of that though.

The cabinets are unfinished and will eventually be a red mahogany that will match the rest of the dark wood in our craftsman-style home. It is going to look so good! I never thought I would be so excited to stain and paint!!!

Back in the game and a little rant

Well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everybody!

I know I said I would be posting a giveaway on Monday but things just seemed to be going so well with our little vacation that I decided to ‘mostly’ stay off the computer until after Christmas. It has been a much needed break and our family had so much fun these last two weeks.

Saying that, I still have felt this weight upon my heart this season. My joy has been laced with a sadness that I cannot quite explain. Going to parties with families who are Christians but seem to hold no respect for the ‘Christian’ holiday is truly heartbreaking. Now, I know I am not perfect and God is certainly not finished with my sinful, prideful self, however, I still find myself in grief year after year over the desecration of this truly glorious celebration. For those who don’t know God and the gift of His Son I understand but said person is a follower of Christ there is no excuse.
When something, let’s say, not so appropriate is passed on from one Christian to another as a gift and it is warmly and excitedly welcomed by the receiver, what does that simple act of acceptance say about our reverence towards Jesus? It is like going to a child’s birthday party, exchanging inappropriate gifts with the other attenders directly in front of the birthday-child while completely ignoring him.

Still, my family’s holiday was terrific. We had our annual vacation, spent nice time with family, and had a blast with our church friends on Christmas. We held a Christmas afternoon dinner and game night at our church and it did wonders to keep the focus on Him making it one of the most cherished Christmas’ in a long time.
The day after Christmas our kitchen arrived and Ryan has been busy installing it. Merry Christmas to US, YEAH!!! It is going to look so good in there. Our 40 something year old kitchen was in desperate need of an update and we were able to get unfinished cabinets for a steal!

Anyway, I am back in the game and should be posting regularly again and getting the last few weeks winner’s packages shipped out (sorry for that delay!). I know that Ryan may need my help now and again in the kitchen but he seems to be moving at a steady pace with little hiccup so far.

For all you far away family, WE MISS YOU!!! Next Christmas we will be with most of you! It has been a long 4 holidays away and we are excited to be back home – or at least closer to home for a bit.

Last Weeks Giveaway Winners!

My months worth of lagging is almost over. I am very sorry for always seeming so delayed in giveaway posts, shipping, and such. I guess a lot of people get a little behind during the holidays. I am not the exception to that.

Anyway, here are our most recent winners.

  • Jason and Caryn won our Hattie and Bootie giveaway!
  • Sara from Minnesota won the Cute Baby Shoes!

Congratulations!
I have emailed both of you and I am looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Not here this week

I wanted to apologize to all you who are frequenting my blog, looking for giveaways and asking questions.
The truth is that I am on vacation right now. I wasn’t going to say anything about it for a few reasons but then I decided that it might be a good idea to let you all know why there was no giveaway this week.

Christmas is only 6 days away, WOW! We won’t be too busy so I will get another giveaway up then.
Until then have a happy pre-Christmas holiday! Don’t run around too crazy-like and be careful if you are having any snowy weather!

Hello, it is ME, the family Martyr – My BIG Lie

Martyr:
1.One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle.
2.One who endures great suffering as a result of an uncontrollable circumstance
3.One who makes a great show of suffering in order to arouse sympathy.

Some friends of mine have decided to get together to do a women’s study on Lies Women Believe. My initial opinion of this book is one of joy! I have so longed to do a book study on homemakers, the falsehoods that we tell ourselves or that others assume about us, and how we can search out the truth of our roles in scripture and use those truths for God’s purpose. I want to be much wiser in the ways of wife-hood and I long to grow into one of those Titus 2 women that my daughter can come to in times of need in her own marriage, someday, not anytime in the near future.

Satan is great at convincing this gullible woman of things that are preposterous, like my jokes are funny, or my dishwasher WILL wash the dishes perfectly clean even if I don’t rinse the chunks of food off first, or that if my hard work around this house is not positively affirmed by my family they must not appreciate me.

Seriously, I have been one to take the martyr’s position in my house on more than one occasion using the excuse that I need affirmation to feel loved and without that affirmation I am doing it all for nothing because all they do is mess it all up again for me to have to start all over.
MY things get broken
MY socks get lost
MY mayo gets used up when all I want is a tasty turkey sandwich
MY time gets wasted
and it is all because nobody cares about ME. You see, for a long time it was all about ME and I took it all out on the people I love the most, bringing them down with me. I would be over dramatic about cleaning, washing dishes, cooking dinner, and about how worn out I was after each grulling day. I was always sick, tired, or just not feeling well. There was always something for me to complain about and I was quick to blame it on being so over worked and unappreciated at home. Life became hard, and there was always some burden weighing me down. I became quick to anger, slow to listen, and hard to be around.
But it was all LIES LIES LIES I tell you, ALL LIES!

They say the truth shall set you free, and in my case, it did in so many ways!
It was so simple.
When I stopped doing it all for ME and whatever rewards I thought I should be receiving from my family, my church, and my friends and started living and doing each thing for God my entire attitude changed. I realized that I didn’t need to be told that I was this awesome wife, super-mom, or church volunteer. When I stopped asking God to make my family please me by acknowledging my hard work and help out a little and started asking God how I can please Him, everything fell into place and my burdens were lifted right then and there.

My eyes were instantly opened. It was like a big, neon, light up sign with the word ‘DUUU‘ came on directly in front of me. Of course my family appreciates me. My children love me. They tell me so all the time. They give me hugs in the morning, draw me pictures, and ask me how I feel. My dear husband comes home to me every night after work and is happy to see me. He may not comment on the cleanliness of the house or the aroma of his favorite dinner in the oven but he doesn’t need to! He shows me his appreciation by taking care of me and our children, loving me, and, if need be, he would lay down his life for me without a second thought. Now, if that isn’t love then what is? How did I ever let myself get so self-centered that I was blinded at how much my family really did need me? Why was their love not enough for me?

Essentially, I learned that when I work for affirmation I am really looking very inward, being selfish, only wanting to do things that benefited myself. When I work for God I feel less selfish, less burdened, much more satisfied with my role as a wife and mother, and motivated to care for my family.
And the funny thing that I have realized is that my days have not really changed. I still have dishes to do. My favorite mugs still get broken, and the mayo does run out on occasion. My husband still leaves his socks on the coffee table and my kids still get sticky globs of jelly all over everything. What has made the difference is my attitude towards it all. Because of God’s grace I GET to be my family’s homemaker. I GET to do things for them. I GET to fish Hot Wheels cars out of the toilet for the umpteenth time and I GET to put all my toddler’s clothes back into his drawers after he emptied them in search of his favorite pajama top. I GET to hug my babies everyday and hear them tell me how beautiful they think I am. I GET to watch my daughter grow into an amazing young lady after God’s heart. And I am BLESSED to be the only woman that my husband wants to grow old with and that he sees fit to make sure there is always an extra jar of mayo in the pantry.

The NOT SO GOOD deal at Staples

I am a little twirked! It is a small thing, and I am not out any money, but I am still irritated by it all.

So, some of you may remember my sweet Staples deal where you get FREE Cadbury Cookies with any order, right? Well, I did it, saw that my order shipped, and waited for it to arrive. Two days later it did but my cookies never made it into the box. No problem. I called Staples and they assured me that even though they were shown as being out of stock on the website they did have some in a different warehouse and they were being re-shipped and I would have them the following Monday. Not long after that they showed back up on the website as being back in stock again. I was pretty sure then that I would get my cookie tin this time.

Well, Monday rolled around and I waited for my cookies. At about 5:30 I called to ask how they were being shipped and when I should expect them because we were planning to leave town. The friendly lady on the phone told me that they were coming UPS and could be delivered anytime up until about 8pm during the holidays and that they were scheduled for delivery on that day.
So I waited.
Tuesday came, still no cookies. I called them again and was put on hold for a time and time and a half and when the lady came back on the phone she said that those cookie tins were never a real offer and nobody was getting them. She told me that they were never shipped out and the computer just kept accepting and then scratching the cookie tins off of every body’s order.

I checked Staples right then and the Cookie Tins were still being offered as a freebie with any Staples purchase.
Even more irritating is that they are still being offered for free now, 4 days AFTER I last talked to them! I put some photo paper and ink in my cart, added the cookies, and my total doesn’t reflect any cost at all for the cookies! I even added six tins and although the cost is showing up in the cart, my total shows the cost of the cookies to be $0.00!

Is Staples trying to pull a scam on us to get us to order stuff knowing that there will be no freebie sent out or are they just having major computer malfunctions? You would think that through all this mess (and I am sure that I am not the only one) they would have figured out to take the offer OFF THE WEBSITE!!!

Like I said, I am not out any money but I sure am irritated by it all.

Top 10 Worst Toys Ever!

We have purchased many toys for our kids that were dumb. Toys that fell apart, were too expensive or a waste of money, really annoying, hard to use, dangerous or things they just didn’t like. I would like to help those who are contemplating purchasing a dumb toy.

Here is my top 10 list of toys that nobody should feel the need to trade money for, in no particular order.

I am not a big fan of those flimsy plastic race car sets – even the Hot Wheels brand seems to fall apart easy and takes up a lot of room on the floor needing to be taken apart and put away when other toys are drug out. These track toys are just annoying, cheaply made, and really not worth the money in my opinion.

DigipetsBLAAA. I think we had one of these for a week before it was lost or something. Kaitlyn BEGGED for one but once she had one she didn’t seem to want it anymore. It was a cheezy toy that sounded way cooler than it was. Back when we had television it was all the rage and Digipets were advertised on TV, meaning they looked much less dumb than they turned out to be.

There is probably no need to go into why this toy is on my worst list. Simply put, this popper push toy is the number one most annoying toy ever made. Kids do seem to like it at first until their parents go crazy.
Ours was banished to the out of doors yet I still felt like eating my face whenever I heard it popping. Yet, there it stayed, for my toddlers to play with. Why I didn’t think to throw it out is beyond me. Maybe it was delivering some sort of mysterious subliminal popping message telling me to keep it forever.

I don’t dislike the supersoaker sized water guns as a rule but some of these things are so ginormously big that no normal sized kid can carry them around. My husband soaked me so many times because I simply couldn’t lift my filled-to-the-top supersoaker up fast enough to get him first. It was just too heavy! My kids would drag their soakers around the yard doing more to gouge up the grass than soak their water gun rivals. Even the smaller ones that come with a backpack sent my 6 year old tumbling backwards numerous times.
The good news was that after about 10 minutes of playing water gun dragging games my kids were exhausted and ready for a nap!

Furby. Annoying, pointless, and bossy little gadget. I know a lot of people went Furby crazy but I just never saw the point. They were like $40 or something and never worked right. We had one for a while and my daughter loved him for a week or so, then he just became an ornament for our entertainment center. Furby’s were just a silly waste of money. True, they did seem like a cool use of new technology at the time but really, with kids running around going ape all the time why on earth would somebody think it cool to design a spoiled rotten, demanding stuffed animal?

Radio Controlled cars. Not all bad if you get the super duper, top of the line, can take any beating, $100 and over type. The cheap ones are just that, a cheap waste of money. They fall apart quickly, batteries die fast, buttons come loose, tires fly off, and pieces get lost. If you are really diligent about making sure the batteries get charged, the car gets put up out of reach when not being properly used, and they don’t get run over by a bigger car, like your neighbor’s SUV, then you can probably get some decent use out of them before your son rips the antenna off to use as a light saber.

Any little magnet and stick toy is not a good idea. They fall apart easy, get lost, get eaten, get thrown. If you have any kids under the age of 8 or if you entertain any children under the age of 8 I suggest never having any of these little magnet type toys in your home. They are just too dangerous. We threw ours out years ago after they started to fall apart and I am still finding them now and again. Magnetix were actually recalled a few years ago due to a bunch of kids getting hurt or dying.

There is just something about a kid who sits in front of a video gaming system all day long that irritates me. I don’t like video games much. It isn’t the gaming itself that bothers me, but the addiction that seems to come along with it. I would say that buying a Game Cube for my kids was possibly one of the dumbest purchases we ever made twice. Yes, we purchased a second Game Cube after the first one went onto video game heaven.
You see, I am the only one in the house annoyed by these little computer boxes. They drive me batty but everybody else is content to sit in front of them and zone out. They only get to play once or twice a week so I guess it isn’t that bad. If you do decide to waste your money on a Game Cube, X-Box, or Wii just make sure that you a prepared to lay down the law when it comes to your little addict’s playing time.

What a mess. This oven might look like a little girl’s dream kitchen but it really is just an accident waiting to happen. Not only did it burn two of my kids, it also false advertised perfect little baked goods on the box. Not quite what comes out of the oven in the end. Do your little gal a favor and get her a real cake pan and cake mix, or better yet, teach her how to bake a cake or cookies from scratch! They will turn out better, tastier, and she will learn a skill in the process!

Easy Sew – more like easy NO sew. We have had two of these type machines over the years and neither of them worked a lick. Little kids sewing machines are just cheap. I would say you get what you pay for but you would at least expect the machine to sew something! The thread always bunched up, the tension never stayed put, it was a sewing nightmare! I just gave up and taught Kait how to use my machine. She has understood the basics of a real sewing machine since she was 7 or 8 years old.

What was your worst gift ever, either one you received as a child or one your child has or has had in the past? If you get a wild hair write a post on it and link it below with Mr. Linky. Make sure to link back here and leave a comment, too!
