When we got home from ‘school‘ today Ryan met me at the door to the van and said, “I got you something”.  After I got inside I was pleased to see two bags of Skittles and a bottle of Cherry Dr. Pepper.

Mmmm…

The kids stood there with their mouths wide open and one of them bravely asked, “Did you get anything for us?”
He smiled and pulled out 5 little bags of Pop Rocks.

I remember Pop Rocks being all the rage when I was a kid.  They were the way good kids rebelled – we’d chase them with soda even though we knew it could be our death.  Such misfits.

Of my kids, only Kait had ever tasted this sour, explosive candy, so I was totally excited to watch our boys experience eating them for the first time.

It was hilarious.

Ben made the most twisted up, awful, funniest face I’ve ever seen.  Matthew said, “These are so good and spicy”.  Then he tried to throw them in the trash.  Sam tasted a little and held a completely blank expression, then stuck out his little paw for more. Kait didn’t like them and had to have a swig of my Cherry Dr. Pepper to get the taste out of her mouth.  It all happened so fast that I didn’t even think about possible tragic outcome of the soda/rocks combo.  What kind of mother am I?

Out of all the kids it was only Gabe and Joe who claimed to like them and finished theirs off.  I think Sam liked them too, but I ended up sharing my skittles with him.

I really regret not having the camera handy for Ben’s expression and Sam’s blank stare.

But, creating a reenactment would be a bit much.
Right?
