Famous last words of a seasoned mom: Be careful not to break the….
Nothing crazy happened last night. The dog didn’t do anything naughty, there were no obnoxiously loud noises, and I slept well for the most part. Jesse and Sam both woke up once but I had to pee anyway.
Pregnancy.
It makes no difference. Today I’m tired anyway. Really tired. So tired that I feel silly for complaining about being tired before.
I asked Joe to start me some coffee. He’s a more than willing brewer and his coffee always turns out good.
I keep the coffee maker in a low cupboard when it’s not in use – I’m really into clear spaces – so I reminded him to be careful not to break the carafe when he got it out. Cause I’m a seasoned mom and I just knew…
He replied with a cheerful yes ma’am.
Just wait for it.

[insert sound of shattering glass here]
Me: Is the carafe broken?
Joe, holding up carafe handle: Is this the carafe?
Me, smiling: Yes. Well, it was.
Here is where Joe gives himself a V8 forehead slap.
Joe: I’m really sorry, mom. I thought a carafe was something on the wheat grinder.
I told him it was fine. In fact, I had done the same thing less than a year ago and the neighbor across the street actually gave me another coffee maker cause they had two.
He’s still beating himself up over it. Wondering if we can replace it, how much it will cost, how can he fix this terrible wrong….?
I’m finding the whole thing mildly humorous in a mom-saw-it-coming sorta way.
Now, if the catastrophe had had something to do with the wheat grinder my reaction may would have been a little different. I’m not that much of a saint. But Joe was carefully watching out for the grinder as he pulled the coffee maker out. That’s probably why he shattered the carafe.
I guess I’m too tired to be really upset anyway.
Plus, all the anger I have the energy to muster is angling towards big dog.
Yeah, I’m still holding on to that one.
