Fodder For Thought – He Must Have Been Kidding

If we believe that the Bible is the Word Of God then why are we so quick to denounce a scripture just because it doesn’t fit our ideas? Isn’t everything in God’s Word written for each of us?
Being a Christian isn’t necessarily supposed to be easy yet we constantly find ways to skirt around scriptures that challenge us so we don’t have to deal with it right now. Or we decide that God didn’t mean that particular scripture for us.
If I claim to believe than I must believe. If not I’m just another faithless hypocrite.

Is there a specific passage that you are referring to? Or are you just musing on scriptures in general?
Just in general. I have noticed, not only in myself, but in others – even entire churches, that when we don’t like a scripture passage we tweak it or ignore it – or even worse, we take it out of it’s context to create something completely new.
Often I think we do this without even realizing it.
What brought me to write this, however, is food because I have a some dear friends who say it’s wrong to eat this and you’re toxic if you eat that when scripture clearly says that all food is made holy by God when recieved in thanksgiving (1Timothy 4)(Acts 11). Maybe they don’t know scripture on food or maybe they are choosing to ignore it. I don’t know – I’m not accusing and we’re told in Romans 14 not to argue about it so I’ll keep my mouth closed unless asked. But it has led me to think about how we have a real tendancy to pick and choose what we like out of the Bible and turn away from everything else.
I’m not innocent of this – I’ve done it myself.
And thanks for the updates on your precious baby girl! We miss you guys so very much. Ya gonna be able to come visit soon? Florida is awesome!
