Giveaway time – Rainbow Brite is back!
Guess who’s back?

[original Rainbow Brite doll with Twink]
I remember Rainbow Brite from when I was a little girl. I watched the mid-80′s cartoon with it’s many bright colors and rooted for Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids as they fought against the villainous Murkwell, all while clutching my beloved Rainbow Brite doll in my lap and donning a little blue star under my left eye.
I always wanted the little blue sprite, Hammy, for my own. Not a plush one, but a real one – a pet.
While I don’t recall ever getting a real Rainbow Brite Sprite in any color, I do recall loving my big Rainbow Brite doll and her talking horse, Starlite.
And now, even as an adult, I still have fond memories of Rainbow Brite. I keep a smaller, original Rainbow Brite doll and Twink, her sprite by my computer desk in my personal toy family.
Needless to say, when MomSelect offered to send me one of Rainbow Brite’s 25th anniversary friends to review here on my blog, I was more than interested. I waited on the edge of my seat for my package to arrive so I could introduce my current Rainbow Brite doll to her new and improved friend, Moonglow.
Now that I’ve had a chance to see both dolls side by side, I have to admit to being partial to the old Rainbow Brite. There are a few reasons for this, which I’ll explain in a minute. Before I get to that, however, I’d like to focus on the positive things about this new Rainbow Brite doll.
The new Rainbow Brite dolls are more like action figures for girls. They’re pose-able, really colorful, and quite stylish. Moonglow’s dress, quite short in the older versions of Rainbow Brite, now hits at her almost non-existent knees (thought her new cartoon self dress is a little shorter). And her curves, well, let’s just say she’s built more like a tall little girl and less like a blossoming teenager or woman. Her big blue and purple hair is fun and somewhat stylable, and her boots actually look like multi-colored moon boots, which I find absolutely hilarious.
And this is a big however.
She is definitely made to look older and cooler. I think little girls are better off playing with dolls that more resemble babies and less reminds me of a fashion queen. The new Moonglow is not the pudgy cheeked doll the old versions of Rainbow Brite characters were. And, though she is an excellent alternative to Barbie and Bratz, I still tend to want to lump her in the same category of doll.
All that being said, however, I would let my daughter play with these dolls. They are cute, colorful, and lean towards a more modest wardrobe, with a simple and fun message about courage, kindness and friendship.
While I don’t know anything about what is going to follow the new doll releases, you can go here to learn more about Rainbow Brite in her 25th year.

Ooh, so sweet! I would love for Claire and Abby to have one
So, let’s see…a favorite childhood toy? This still makes me giggle…we didn’t have a lot of money growing up so my little sister and I would use our roller skates as Barbie cars. And remember the way skates used to be made with the high ankle and really long ties? We’d settle our little knock off barbies into the skate and pull them all over the house.
So gla dyou guys are coming over today!
PS
I’m gonna write a blog post in a bit and then I’ll link it back to here
Please do not enter me in the drawing since I only have boys- let everyone else have a chance. But I wanted to share my Rainbow Brite story with you!
My little sister got a Rainbow Brite doll for Christmas back in the days, and we were really poor, so it was a special surprise. Her joy was short lived, however, because of me.
One day, our church had a bonfire. It was a holy bonfire. We were encouraged to bring evil things and burn them in the fire. Rock music, unholy books, immodest clothes, and evil toys. Barbie was evil. (lust) Smurfs were evil. (wizards & witchcraft) And unfortunately for my little sister, Rainbow Brite was evil with her magical ways. So guess what I brought to the bonfire, unbeknownst to my sister or mother? Yep. Poor Rainbow Brite.
My mom and sis never knew what happened to her until I was an adult!
So Rainbow Brite, if you can read this, I am sorry. Please forgive me.
But you Bratz dolls? I’ve got my eye on you…
I used to love My Little Pony, but Rainbow Brite was a close second!
My favorite toys growing up were My Little Ponies. I LOVED them. And I’m proud to say that my daughter does too!! I did love Rainbow Brite too though. And her amazingly beautiful horse. I actually named one of our real horses Starlite after her horse. I used to have Rainbow Brite records that I played on a tonka record player as I was going to sleep. They had little books that you looked at while it read to you. Seriously…..I loved Rainbow BriAfter looking at the doll I SO prefer the old one!!! Londyn has two sprites. A green one and a yellow one. I always felt sad for Rainbow Brite that she had the white one. Little did I know that white contains all the colors of the rainbow! (I find that hard to believe but my art teacher told me so in high school so it must be true. Ha Ha!)
I loved them all! Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Kids, Barbie! My daughter loves My Little Ponies. I would love to show her Rainbow Brite.
Thanks!
Okay, here’s my blogpost about your giveaway…you certainly sent me off on a memory tangent…

Rainbow Brites? I have some vague memory of them… Guess this dates me. Don’t know that it would have mattered anyway – I only had eyes for my Breyer horses. I’m assuming these would have been safe from your bonfire, Becky??
I started collecting Madame Alexander dolls as a child. I now have about 150, these are my favorite toys from childhood.
