how to confuse your children
Once upon a time my boys were on their way out the front door. It was about 45 degrees outside and a little windy.
Me: What are you crazy? You can’t go outside dressed in shorts and a t-shirt! And sandals!!! Go back into your room and put on long sleeves, shoes, and a jacket. You might want gloves too.
Them: Yes ma’am.
That was two days ago.
Today, they were making their way out the front door again. The kitchen was cleaned up from breakfast and friends were waiting.
Me: What are you nuts? You can’t go outside dressed in long sleeves, long pants, a jacket and snow hat! Go back in your room and put on a short sleeved shirt.
Them:
[blank stare]
Today we have the front door open again. It’s a beautiful 75 degrees. The scent of rain is present in the air but that’s not going to stop us from grilling out with the neighbors tonight. There will be burgers, chips, fireworks, and a projector for the kids to play Dance Revolution 2 on some video game thing on the garage door.
Tomorrow there will be pictures. Possibly a video. And probably a really good blog post.
The whole event is likely to draw a lot of attention.
Ryan is making quite a few extra burgers. You should come on over!

Oh, I wish that we could!
Too bad Marty just has us to hang out with. She wishes she could come, but she already committed to having us over. :/ I’m not sure how to feel about it all.
Great, now I’m extra jealous. I want to hang out with you guys too.
Ok, when are you guys coming back in town?? My boys did ask before we went to Rob and Marty’s if you guys would be there spending the night. Hehe.
Haha – I guess it would be reasonable for them to wonder that considering the Hadding house is our vacation home.
We don’t know when we’ll be back though. Which is sad. The last few times we visited we knew exactly when we’d be back again. This time it’s completely unknown.
[snif snif]
Well obviously it would be a group road trip Lauren
