Mr. John’s Little Brother – Kait’s 4-H Project.

So, this is “Mr. John’s Little Brother”. That is his name. He is Kaitlyn’s new lamb. She has to raise him for two months and enter him into the county fair as a 4-H project. Then he is sold and will become somebody’s dinner. It is a competition on lamb rearing for food. She is learning all the different parts of the lambs body and what sections need to be big, small, muscular and lean.

We warned her what would happen and she begged to do this anyway. Call it a lesson in life.

Kait is an animal lover. Yes, she loves meat, but actually knowing this sheep and training him, feeding him, and taking care of him is going to make this tough on her. I am beginning to regret saying she could do this. I know how much it is going to hurt her in the end and it will break me to see her so sad. I keep thinking that there has got to be another option but there is not. She has actually asked me why we can’t keep him.

He is actually quite tame compared to the other sheepies he is housed with. He comes right over to the gate when he sees Kait and when she tries to leave he gets between her and the gate. He follows her around everywhere.

Anyway, she is really enjoying him right now, even knowing what will happen in a couple of months. It will be tough.
