My Journey Through Couponing – part 2
My coupon box is made and I didn’t spend a dime on it – just used what I had laying around the house. It turned out pretty good – I am very pleased with it. see yesterday’s post
Today I am going to start filling it up. I have a bunch of coupons that I have printed from various websites and I have some that I picked off the blinkies at grocery stores. When the blinky ones are good I grab a few of them, depending on their expiration date, and shove them in my back pocket where they sometimes stay until after a few jean washes and I wonder what I did with those blinkie coupons. By then they are one solid, thick, wrinkled coupon. This is the only negative aspect of getting the laundry done every day.
It is going to take me a good while to fill this box up. I don’t get the paper – I refuse to pay money for the crud our local paper spouts – so my coupon resources will be limited to blinkies and the internet.
Does anybody know how to get the Sunday coupons without getting the paper???
So far, my favorite online coupons spots are:
SmartSource
CoolSavings
Coupons.com
Wow Coupons This place isn’t my favorite but if you scroll down to the bottom of the page there are some really good coupons to browse. The only problem is that most of them want you to fill out something to get each coupon. If you decide to do this I suggest using a special Junk mail only email address
I am only printing coupons on things we do use or would try if I can get it at a nice discount. I think it would be overwhelming at this stage in my couponing journey to try to keep up with every coupon out there. I think that is where I blow it each time I try getting into using coupons.
Most coupon spots will let you print each coupon off twice and I think they change them up every week. I don’t think it would be honest of me to try to circumvent that to get more coupons. I don’t want frugality to turn me to greed so I am just going to follow the rules and see what I can do with what I am offered.
Next I am going to try my hand at matching coupons up to sales in my local flyers. Hopefully I will find some nice deals this weekend to post about.
Happy Couponing!!!

On sundays most times if you run into a fast food joint in the morning often people will leave their newpapers for other’s to read so you can just take the coupons that they leave, many times you can get alot of coupons this way.
I recently found out that a local mom and pop convenience store just rips off the front page of the papers that don’t sell (in order to get a refund) and toss the rest of it. I have yet to contact the owners/manager about it, but it might be worth a shot.
Lisa – that would be a great idea except we live in a very little town with only an Arby’s. I don’t even think they open until lunch on Sundays, but I will check it out. I will also keep that in mind for when we move in a few months though!
Twomuths – I have never thought of that. Dear friends of ours own our local convenience store. I will ask them what they do with their old Sunday papers. It is true that our small town runs out of Sunday papers early in the day though. When I used to get them I remember having to go before church or else they would be all gone.
Still, I am going to ask!
Thanks!!!
I snag about 5 or 6 papers’ worth of coupons every week from discarded papers at Starbucks or the diner down our block, and then clip all the coupons, saving for myself only what I know I might use. That’s maybe 5-10% of the coupons.
The rest I give away, usually via a “Take My Coupons” post on Crystal’s Frugal Fridays. You want some? I have about 4 envelopes stuffed full right now. If so just email me, samara jane, gmail.
Another thing you might do is check your local Yahoo groups for coupon exchanges. Jacksonville (where I just moved) has one, but I haven’t checked it out yet.
Before I moved, I used to (don’t laugh) go up & down our alley on Sunday evening looking for coupon inserts in folks’ recycling bins. The recycling went out on Monday morning, so this was fruitful. Especially on the weeks when there are coupons for free dog food cans or free cat food or pet treats, I scrounge as much as possible! I fed our animals mostly for free this way for awhile.
OK, I have one more suggestion that works for me- look up the websites of all your favorite brands AND all the brands that are on sale per the store flyers- I did horizon organic, gerber, beech nut, earth’s best… and they always have coupons to print out for their products so that you can stack them with the store sales. Most will also send you something free in the mail if you sign up for their product newsletters (use your junk email address and a phony 555 phone number).
