I went to make coffee.  There is a story here.

We normally buy the cheapest coffee the store sells.  It’s never bothered us before – we haven’t ever been picky about coffee.  Ryan was out to sea on a carrier for 6 months and they called the coffee served in the galley sludge.  Until recently he was happy with just about any crappy brew.

Then…

He told me a month or two ago that the coffee at home just didn’t taste good anymore.  He didn’t know what it was.  We tried different brands but he’s just not satisfied with my home brewed coffee anymore. I cleaned our coffee maker.  No change.
I told him I thought it was because he was spoiled on the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee he had been picking up a couple times a week at the local Hess station.  So, we decided to take out a loan to buy a bag of the really obnoxiously expensive Dunkin’ grounds at Publix just to see if that was his issue.

I wanted to get the measurement right so I read the directions.

It said, 1 heaping TBS per 6oz. of coffee.

Only what I read went a little more like 1 heaping TBS per 6 cups of coffee.  And I thought to myself, Self, this coffee isn’t all that expensive after all!  You only need a little bit of grounds to make a whole pot!

Totally excellent!

I commented to Ryan that it didn’t take but a TBS to make 6oz. and how cheap this coffee really was.  He didn’t say anything for a minute.  He just looked at me funny.
Then he asked me how much I was making.

And it hit me.
I’m such a dunce.
What I was brewing was coffee flavored water. Not exactly the best coffee drink ever.

I corrected the issue, brewed a pot with the appropriate amount of grounds, and waited for Ryan’s assessment.

Now this is really good coffee.

The man’s now become a coffee connoisseur.  When he has to go back out to sea I’m going to have to pack him one of those adorable little bachelor dude coffee makers and a bunch of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

I have to admit that this coffee is better than the cheap stuff, but I load mine with sugar and creamer so maybe I mask the ugly because the difference isn’t that amazing.

We’ve had our water heater on since Christmas.  We’ve turned on our air conditioner 3 times in the last week. And now we’re spending $6.50 for a small bag of coffee.

Something seems awfully wrong here.
