Last night I put Jesse (10 months) in bed with me in the middle of the night.  Although I usually put him in his crib now, we had friends visiting and he was fussing.  In efforts to not wake our guests, I just kept Jesse in bed with me.

He’s cute and growing too fast so I was completely okay with it.  Any reason to cuddle him close…

At about 5 in the morning I woke up to my hair being pulled out and my baby crying.  However, my head was turned from him, and because of the pulled hair I couldn’t turn my head towards him to see how to untangle the hair.  So, I just reached my hands back to him, grabbed his hand, and unwound my hair from his fingers.

But he was still crying and my hair was still pulling.

After feeling around behind me I realized that my hair was wound around his neck – and tightly.  I hollered for Ryan to wake up and help and just as he did I managed to undo the mess.

We are so blessed that Jesse didn’t end up choking on my hair.  But I know it could have easily been much, much worse. He bore the mark of the episode on his neck all day, though now the red line is mostly faded.

It had never occured to me that this could happen.  And from now on I will always keep my hair pulled back if I have one of my littles in bed beside me.

Just wanted to pass the warning on – in case you never would have thought either.
