Today, in our technologically advanced world, there are more options for grade schooling than ever;  public, private, public-online, private-online, homeschooling, unschooling, and public with online supplements.

Our family does a cross between homeschooling and unschooling until the children reach high school.  High School is done at an online private school.  Online schooling ensures my child remains completely self paced, which is very important to me, while providing the paper diploma which is still so highly desired by many colleges and companies.

So, when Mom Select asked me to write about my opinion of Onlineschoolsolutions.com, I was already sure I could give a knowledgeable review.

I was impressed with the potential of the Onlineschoolsolutions.com website to provide a plethora of information for families like mine who find value in online schooling.
First, the website is easy to navigate, with just the basic information to get you started.  Simply click on your state to find what online schools are available in your area.  Although it does appear that the website is far from being complete, the potential for greatness is there.

When I clicked on Florida, our state, I was a bit surprised to see only one option for online schooling.  I know for a fact that many school districts in our state offer online public schooling, as well as many colleges who offer high schoolers duel enrollment online.  I understand that Onlineschoolsolutions.com is a new site, however, and it will grow in time.

The Keystone School was the only option they offered for the Florida area.  I clicked through and began browsing the Keystone website.  There was a lot of information and being the parent of an online schooler I have something to compare The Keystone School with.
While it is 5 times more expensive than the online school we currently use, the courses seem like they’d more challenging and thorough.  Also, options are available for children who need more time, less time, assistance, or specialized learning.  It is completely self paced and available for middle and high school students.  Your child can push through school as fast or as slow as they are comfortable with.
The fact that Keystone is an accredited school means that it is recognized by most colleges and universities.  Also, this allows for a transfer of credits from your online school to a public or private school, should your child’s schooling needs change.

Overall, I think the option of online learning is a great substitute for public schooling.  There are so many benefits to self paced schooling at home.  Fewer distractions, and a more comfortable learning environment are two that your child will notice right away.  They also learn self motivation, can spend more time on subjects they struggle with, while moving forward quickly in subjects they are strong at, stay off boredom, bullying, and damaging peer pressure.

I encourage you, if you’re thinking of homeschooling, or supplementing your child’s public or private education, to take a look at Onlineschoolsolutions.com.  And check back often as I’m sure they’ll be adding more options as they grow.
