here she is

They’re calling her strawberry right now.  I told Kait if we are able to keep her I’d be naming her something more fitting.

No, we still haven’t secured a place to keep her when we move. I’ve not lost all hope though.

Most hope, but not all.

goat

What do you do when you have a goat and you’re moving in a few months and you can’t find a rental house that is goat friendly and not an hour away from the base?

We’re moving to the Jacksonville/Mayport Florida area in a few months and we almost have a goat.  Keeping this goat, which I want, depends almost completely on having a place to keep her when we move.  I can’t even think of having her unless we are sure we won’t have a problem housing her when we move, says my husband (why does he have to have such good judgement?).  If it were up to me I’d just bring her home and then worry about what we’ll do with her when we move. God gave me Ryan for a reason, I guess.

This isn’t a spur of the moment thing, getting a goat.  I’ve planned on having a couple of milking goats for years now – just waiting for the right time which never seems to come.  However, we have friends who have a bunch of baby goats now and we’ve been offered a very special one (special as in Kait was there when she was born). And all the sudden my dream of having a goat is closer to being a reality.

But then there is that whole moving thing I mentioned above.

What was so close to being, is still as far away as it’s ever been.

[sigh]

cloudy with a chance of…

…rain.

Apparently, our entire county shut down, including the base (YAY!) because we’re getting 2 to 3 inches of snow rain with a chance of ice pellets today.

I don’t know how I should feel.  I wasn’t excited about getting snow until last night.  Now that I want to see some fluffy white stuff falling from the sky, the chance of snow has all but diminished.

There’s just no winning.

On the bright side – My friend who lives a few hours north just sent me a text telling me they have 3 to 4 inches.  You know, just to rub it in a little.  She’s so awesome.  BFTKC right back at ya Mama Squirrel!:|

I’m there.

I’ve been dealing with a cold for going on 3 weeks now.  It has come and gone, lingered, siked us into thinking it was over, then came back triple force in the night.

The toddler and the baby had it the worst.  Oh, the all night coughing.

It hasn’t been horrible.  No troubled breathing, only one day of fever.  Just a runny nose and really rough cough.  Oh, and exhaustion.  This cold is really bringing on the tired.

You know what it feels like when you have a new baby and you’re up every 2 hours in the middle of the night feeding that new baby?  You know how hazy those days can be when you have gone 2 weeks with only a few hours of sleep every night?  The energy is gone.  You can’t think straight.  Can’t remember anything.  Can’t organize thoughts in any kind of rational pattern.

I’m there.

I’m so there.

And I’m not even the one who’s sick.

Blessed we are that this is just a cold.  A long running cold, but just a cold.  And, it is quite obviously at it’s end.  The kids’ energy is coming back and last night the nighttime coughing was at a minimum.

Tomorrow will be better.  I know it.  But today…

Triple espresso, please!

Coffee. Strong Coffee.

Long night.  While I can tell my littles are getting better, their coughs are getting yuckier.  I broke down and opened a bottle of Robitussin for them in the middle of the night.

Finally, sleep.  Just not enough to satisfy.

season’s greetings

I love seeing my Christmas cards hanging above my couch.  It’s almost February and I have no desire to take them down.  But, it’s 65 and sunny outside and I should be hanging my laundry on the line instead of using the dryer.

So, I took a picture so my Christmas card line will be remembered.

Cause I need my clothes pins back.

knock knock

We have a visitor.

cat

This really pretty and extremely friendly stray cat just showed up at our front door.

And I mean Right at our front door.

He peered in and meowed at us to open up.  We didn’t.  Instead, Kait went out and loved on him (he purred and rubbed all over her), gave him some food, and brushed his very thick and oily coat.

She’s a push over for animals.  Her husband is gonna have to be a real patient man.

a weeks worth

The last week I haven’t blogged at all. We’ve had sick little ones. Not really sick, just sick enough to keep us at home – and me tired from being up listening to a toddler cough. The coughing toddler, however, never woke up.

So, here’s a quick recap of the last week and a half.

Got a Care Bear for free.
Went over to visit our friends, Don and Ally, and laughed a lot.
Had dinner with Heather and Heath and got mopped out of the restaurant after 4 hours.
Found poop on a book on the bookshelf.
Took Kait to the dentist
Took Kait to the orthodontist.
Made appointment for Kait to get braces.
Received the Swinxs we won in the mail.
Went to the grocery store.
Forgot to buy what I went to the grocery store to buy.
Found a pull-up in the washer.
Saw a really dumb movie.
Saw a really good movie.
Imagined throwing my laptop through the window.
Thought better of it and instead, got up and completed a sewing project.
Had a birthday party for Jesse.
Went to church.
Stayed home from church with sick littles.
Washed my hair. With shampoo. Why is this note worthy?
Swore off cloth diapers forever.
Used cloth diapers again.
Learned what a Shaker was.
Wiped 16 gallons of snot from Sam’s nose.
Allowed my daughter to have 10 of her buddies over for a game day.
Ground a lot of wheat (thanks Marseilles for bringing over your mill!)

Oh, and found out that Jesse is part crab.

over begins

Technically Christmas is over.
Ben  (4) has been reminding me all day that “we gotta take the Christmas tree down”.  He was also the one, 4 weeks ago, who got in much trouble for his very persistent, “we gotta decorate the Christmas tree right now“.

So starts the short list.

Gotta take down the tree.  Gotta carefully pack up each Christmas ornament and remember how the puzzle of ornament boxes went so I can fit them all back in the Christmas box.  I need to take down the lights from outside and wind them up just so.

Gotta get ready for the 3 birthdays we have in January.  One turns 1, one turns 5, one turns 15.

15.

Sheesh.

And I gotta re-redo my blog template again.

babies

They make me smile.

I can’t imagine how cool this little movie is gonna be.  It doesn’t come out for another 4 months but I can’t wait!
