the old, old fashioned way
We went to a renaissance fair on Saturday put on by The Society for Creative Anachronism.
At first I thought it said acronyms. I didn’t get how that fit but I thought it was hilarious. Then, after I read it for the 50th time I realized it didn’t say acronyms. Then it wasn’t funny anymore.
Joe got a feel for woodworking the old old fashioned way when he got a chance to use this shaving bench and draw-knife.
Gabe tried it after him. His opinion of it went something like this:
“I have to have one of these!”
The little fair was fun. Some of the promised booths weren’t around and others had stuff but weren’t manned. That was disappointing because I would have loved to learn more about bee keeping. However, the guy who was showing the boys all the old tools was very knowledgeable about his craft and was more than willing to answer all our questions and let the boys hold all the tools.

I think we’re going to help the boys make their own shaving bench. They’d have fun stripping bark off of logs for no reason at all.
I’ll be on the lookout for rusty, ancient tools…
by the way – Joe is the one on the bench. Those kids in the background are not mine.
