we have house.
My trip to the base today was eventful but productive.
They offered us a handicapped accessible house because it’s been empty way too long and they need somebody in it. It was really cool and had a playground in the backyard and was all one level and I really liked it except for the odd kitchen design. The upper cupboards were only 8 or 10 inches above the counters so there is no place to put appliances like my way cool coffee maker. Seriously, nothing would fit there. Nothing. This design makes the kitchen pretty much useless yet they were begging me to accept this house with $400 off our first month and $50 off of each additional month.
I said no.
We cook for a family of 10, people. We need a kitchen that we can actually make food in.
So we signed for the house they originally offered us and it is officially ours and I have keys for it and everything and it’s pretty much awesome. I just wish we could actually live in it which will hopefully be soon because our move paper was signed today (finally), and I was given the website I needed to go to for the move set up but it turns out that I can’t set up our move because you can only do that on a department of defense computer which I don’t have, nor do I have access to. So I called personal property (the place that sets up your move) and apparently they don’t work ever and don’t answer messages because I called all the live long day with no response.
This is fun.
So, the Rabbit called and it was so good to hear his voice and he said he’d do it from a computer in the Bermuda Triangle and then email me that it was done because he is the most awesome man in the world and then I just have to wait for the moving company to call me and we’ll be on our way to getting out of this house and into that one. All the moving companies we’ve ever used have been way more efficient than the military so this part won’t be so bad. I just hope they call me soon. Like tomorrow. Morning.
And our landlord for our current house is not responding to our inquiries about how much our prorated rent will be next month and how we set up our move out inspection and all that good mess. It’s been a week and the Rabbit has contacted her 3 or 4 times but nary a word of response on her end. I fear she’s angry with us for not resigning our lease so you know I’m gonna have this house spotless when we move out.
Also, my house is a complete disaster and it seems the harder I try to ready it for the move the worse it gets. Strange forces are at work against me and yet, it was a surprisingly good day.
Update: Just as I published this post I heard a crash in the kitchen. Ben had accidentally broken one of my brand new blue plates. It’s okay though – just one less thing to move, right?

Yeah. It seems that every time something works itself out another thing springs a big nasty leak. It will all work out in the end though if I can just remember to breathe.
