We’re just not a family of fisherman, I guess.
I have one child who appears to enjoy fishing. The rest of them would rather be digging or staring at the sky or eating. Still, when Rabbit mentioned maybe taking some of them fishing they were initially excited. So, he packed some snacks and took some of the boys to a popular lake the weekend before he left on deployment and it was pretty humorous. Joe opted to stay home. He’s not much for that kind of stuff, preferring his telescope to a rod and reel.
So Ryan got them out to this nice lake near our home that I’m sure was filled with very hungry, giant alligators that were surly going to eat my babies. For real. This is Florida.
Matthew loved it. Everybody else just wanted to throw rocks or get a snack or come home. It was a somewhat chilly day for Florida. We’re not really accustom to too much cold weather around here so maybe that played a part in their opinion of the trip.
Jesse was just happy to have a little fishing pole. He really didn’t have much interest in using it, but he very much enjoyed holding it for a few minutes. Then he just wanted to eat something.
Ben: I don’t really get this? Can I just have a snack from the Van?
Matthew enjoyed himself, but didn’t catch anything. Sam just wanted to go home. Fishing was very boring to him.
Gabe thought it was okay. He liked it for about 10 minutes and then his boredom-reflex kicked in and he was ready to do something else. So they had a casting competition. That was pretty much the highlight of the day for them.
The boys did have a great time with their dad and that’s what’s important, even if it didn’t turn out to be something they’d choose to do again. And that’s just fine with me because I like my babies without alligator teeth marks.

What the heck, I get on here for the first time in a week or so and there’s like a million new posts! That’s good though. I’m not gonna respond to every single one of them, so I’ll give a universal comment: Jelly beans.
Acceptable. I guess.
